WHAT TO WEAR

This is a very common question I get from clients. Here are a few things to consider before dressing yourself and your family:

Location

A three-piece suit would feel out of place at a session on a working farm, and a cute tank top and ripped jeans wouldn't make sense in a ballroom. Don't be afraid to make a statement, but make sure your outfit choices feel practical for your family, given the location of the shoot.

Weather

In Buffalo, we always have to take the weather into consideration. Layers are not only aesthetically pleasing in photos, but can be helpful for any last minute temperature changes. Remember that kids (and adults) will lose smiles and patience pretty quickly if they are too cold or too hot.

Personality

If you love bow ties and suspenders, and flowy dresses and big sun hats, then go for it! But if your style is more subtle, that's okay too. You want your outfit to feel like you, and you'll feel most comfortable in clothing and accessories that reflect that.

Coordination

Long gone are the days of matchy-matchy outfits! You do not have to match each family member exactly. But that doesn't mean you don't take into account what each person is wearing. The goal is for your colors and styles to coordinate and not clash.

Things to avoid:

I suggest avoiding clothing with large logos and graphic tees as they can be a distraction. Also, dressing your entire family in the same shade of the same color (including black or white) - tends to make everyone blend together and can make your images look dated. Before we begin, make sure to empty your pockets of phones and keys, and remove any hair ties from your wrists.
